Special Requirements

This theme requires the latest version of WeatherPanel, and you need at least two sizes of icons for proper display, for these files you need regular and mini icons. The directory structure for icons should be as follows: Icons/YourIcons where YourIcons is the icon set you are using. This folder can have the following sub-folders: Huge, Large, Mini and Moon, the Huge, Large and Mini can have a sub-folder in them called Moon.

The lunar calendar display will work best if you have mini moon icons in your selected theme. It will use the built in mini moons if you do not but this will significantly slow the display. If you wish to use the Real time moon image display make that image the seventh image of your home city. To use this you must have the seventh radar image pointed to the following URL: [1] Note that if you have no seventh image the screen will default to a standard moon image from your icon set, this is so you do not have to have multiple downloads of the moon image for proper display when not viewing from your home city. If you do not have six radar images for your home city use the link below to create a blank radar image. The url for this blank radar image is: [2] Use this link to create a blank radar image link. The image is a one pixel jpg image so it shouldn't take long to download or take up significant space on your device.

Introduction

TABS is a fully landscape and portrait compliant WeatherPanel theme with three sizes available. It should work fine as a tab in PocketBreeze using side tabs although some screens will look a little compressed in portrait mode.

Installation Instructions:

Download the proper VGA file to your computer and unzip the folder and place the TABS folder on your PPC in your MaresWare/WeatherPanel/Themes folder. Go into WeatherPanel settings and select the display tab from the bottom. For theme select TABS, and select one of the TABS layouts for the Layout. A general description of available layouts is listed below. Select the icons you wish to use with the layout (Note that the lunar calendar works much faster if you have mini moon icons with the Icons you select. All themes work best with both normal and mini icons.)

General Directions

Basic operation of this theme is quite simple, from the default today screen display you will have six tabs at the top of the display. To navigate from the default screen (MAIN) you can tap any of the large icons to switch to a forecast for that day (DETAILS) or tap DETAILS directly from the MAIN screen to access a current forecast for today. Note that from any other tab the DETAILS tab will open a forecast for the current day and not the current information. The GRAPHS tab will open a multiline graph (or two if using the large layout), the RADAR tab will open a radar window with three to six tabs on the right to open different radar views depending on the layout selected, the LUNAR is pretty self explanitory and finally the alert tab will show any current alerts for the current city and the last update time. To access settings from any tab just tap the current tab and the drop down menu will appear. In the daily graphs in the GRAPHS window the bar graph for daily temps (Note that the top of the bar is the high for the day and the bottom is the low for that night, on rare occasions when the night time temp is higher than the daytime temp the bar will completely disappear) which includes day and night precip lines and wind speed lines the darker lines are the night time forecasts.

Layouts incuded

  • TabsSmall.wpl - A small today layout with a VGA height of 156 pixels. Radar window has three side tabs.
  • TabsMedium.wpl - Similar to above with a VGA height of 200 pixels. Radar window has four side tabs.
  • TabsLarge.wpl - Similar to above with a VGA height of 288 pixels. Radar window has six side tabs. Added a little more flash to this layout as I had more room to play.
  • TabsLarge+.wpl - Similar to above but added an extended 5 day forecast (will only display well in normal portrait view, if viewing in Landscape or with side tabs the extended forecast will not display well. Added a six side tab graph page which has an hourly line, hourly bar, daily line, daily bar, compare graph and combined hourly and daily graphs pages.

NEW Red Alert Tabs

Image:Redalerttabs.png

This theme adds a red highlight to the Alert tab whenever you have a weather alert. This highlight will show from any tab you are viewing to alert you to the fact that there is an alert. Other than this the files operate exactly as those above. To get the highlight to work when you unzip the archive you must place the 'Alert' folder directly into the icon folder you intend to use with this theme (or you can place it as a sub folder in all your icon sets). It will use very little memory as the entire folder is only 5kb. If you use this theme with an icon set that doesn't have this sub-folder you will not have the highlight, but everything else will function normally.

Thanks to Buzzard for requesting some way to tell if there is a weather alert from the main tab and my own twisted mind for coming up with this method of doing it, and thanks to Ya for further beta testing of this theme.

Known Limitations and bugs:

1.) This theme will not display at it's best in PocketBreeze with side tabs. All the windows will automatically resize depending on the view width but some pages will look a little compressed and the ALERT tab will be partially cut off (just the actual tab at the top of the screen).

2.) On the built in Weather Details pages if you are looking at the page which shows multiple days while in Landscape mode and tap one of the icons it will take you to the Portrait details page for that day. This appears to be a bug with WeatherPanel. This bug is present in a few of these pages.

3.) If you do not update for over 24 hours then some of the display will be somewhat unpredictable. This is a limitation of using the CURRENT forecast section. If you do not update then the DETAILS tab will not open from the main screen as no current information is available.

4.) In the Current details screen there is a hidden radar window which can be accessed by the icon at the top left of the temp graph. No way to close the radar once open without leaving the details page. I did this by creating a radar window pointed to Radar-9 assuming that no one has 10 radar images for any single city. If they do they will not be able to see the underlying graph.

5.) NOTE TO QVGA USERS: My battery recently died on my old iPaq 5555 so I do not have a QVGA device to test on. Most of this theme should work fine on a QVGA device if you resize the images BUT the graphs will not display well at all. These are drawn in somewhat different positions depending on whether you are using a VGA or QVGA device. Much of the graphics will have to be adjusted for this and I have no way to do this myself without a test device so you are on your own.
